The Cabinet has declared flood- and landslide-affected areas in the three districts disaster crisis zones for three months. The aim is to speed up relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction. The decision was made public on October 16, 2026.

Which areas are covered

The designation applies to named local units, not to whole districts:

Gorkha: Chumnubri, Dharche and Aarughat rural municipalities

Dhading: Wards 1 and 2 of Tripurasundari Rural Municipality

Baglung: Galkot and Dhorpatan municipalities

What families may receive

Families whose private homes were damaged can get temporary housing and livelihood support if they arrange their own temporary accommodation instead of staying in a government holding centre.

Rs 15,000 a month for a family of up to four members

Rs 2,000 more a month for each additional member

Up to six months, or until alternative housing is available

The three-month disaster-zone period and the six-month support period are two different things. The zone designation does not run for as long as the assistance can.

Different areas, different disasters

The newly named areas were not hit by the same event.

In Gorkha, a landslide blocked the Budhi Gandaki River on October 11. The temporary natural dam later breached and sent floodwater downstream. Damages to infrastructure includes to homes, bridges, hydropower infrastructure and trekking routes, and residents and visitors needed evacuation or help.

Parts of Dhading were also affected by flooding in the Budhi Gandaki river system. But the designation covers only Wards 1 and 2 of Tripurasundari.

In Baglung, Galkot and Dhorpatan were included after flooding and landslides linked to heavy rain in late September.

On October 9, the government had already declared specified local units in six districts disaster-hit areas, after heavy rain between September 24 and 27.

So the October 16 decision is a further, specific declaration. It is not the first of the season, and it is not yet clear how the two will fit together or how they interact with other relief programmes.
